Scripture:  Take time reading and allow God to speak to you. Look for a verse from the passage that particularly spoke to you and write it in your journal.

Deuteronomy 1:8-13  8 See, I have given you this land. Go in and take possession of the land that the LORD swore he would give to your fathers– to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob– and to their descendants after them.”  9 At that time I said to you, “You are too heavy a burden for me to carry alone.  10 The LORD your God has increased your numbers so that today you are as many as the stars in the sky.  11 May the LORD, the God of your fathers, increase you a thousand times and bless you as he has promised!  12 But how can I bear your problems and your burdens and your disputes all by myself?  13 Choose some wise, understanding and respected men from each of your tribes, and I will set them over you.”

Observation:  What do you think God is saying to you in this scripture? Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and reveal Jesus to you. Paraphrase and write this scripture down in your own words in your journal.

Moses remembers how worn out he became trying to manage everything, every dispute, every problem, all direction, planning and vision, it all came from him.  His father-in-law, Jethro rebuked him eventually.  He exhorted him to select good men from among the families and teach them and train them in the laws and show them how to live so that they may help manage God’s people well (Ex 18:20).

If God’s law…the Ten Commandments, the rules and regulations for living were followed these people would stand out in the world around them.  Then…“the nations will see your righteousness, and all kings your glory; you will be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will bestow.  3 You will be a crown of splendor in the LORD’s hand, a royal diadem in the hand of your God” (Isaiah 62:2-3).

They were the instrument God was forming.  They were His plan to draw the nations back.  They were to point the way.  They were instrumental in the salvation of all nations.

Application:  Personalize what you have read, by asking yourself how it applies to your life right now. Write how this scripture can apply to you today.

We are at a critical place in our church community.  We are accepting membership in our church and asking those who sign on as members to appoint leaders from among them who are qualified and willing to serve the people they are committed to.

One of the hopes we all have is growing as an influence in our community; growing to the point that we embrace a passion to joyfully display His supreme excellence in all spheres of life.  I believe that the local church (with Christ as the head) is the hope of the world.  When we manage things well in the church God is glorified in our community.

Prayer:  This can be as simple as asking God to help you use this scripture, or it may be a greater insight on what He may be revealing to you. Remember, prayer is a two way conversation, so be sure to listen to what God has to say and journal about it.

Lord, help us to unite in the leadership of your people.  Call those leaders, point them out to us, who desire to be a part of changing lives, our communities, and the world through the local church.
